Session 8

 

Hrs: 2.25 - Total: 23.25

  • Cut out ring frame and deck supports.
  • Laminated deck supports and ring frame into hull
  • More 2" tape for sections 3 and 4

Taping tools. My workflow here: Dab epoxy into seams with the brush for all seams to be worked on. Lay the pre-cut tape onto the seam. Dab it in with brush and wet out epoxy with brush. Remove excess resin with roller and us epoxy picked up from roller on bulkheads not pre hot-coated. Seems to work on the end.

 1.5 hrs. Total: 21 hrs.

  • Taped in sections 2 and 3.
  • A bit of goop for transom plate holes
  • Finished hot coating interior - next time do all before assembly.

Session 6

 

Hours: 2.0: Total 19.5

  • Removed all copper stitches. 
  • Started prepping fillets for 2" fiberglass tape.
  • Added 1/4" transom plate

Session 5

 Day.  1.0 hours. Total: 17.5 hours.

  • Completed filleting
  • Fillets are done!
  • Pastry bag worked well. Going for tubes next time around. Perhaps pre-mix.

Session 4

Day. 7.5 hours. Total: 16.5 hours.

  • CNC cut 1/2" bulkheads and deck knees
  • Stitched bulkheads into place
  • Played the alignment game and tightened copper stitching all around
  • Filleted about 75% of all joins thickening with a mixture of 80% cabosil \ 25% Q-Cell. Medium size fillets.



Longer session today.. Normally I'll make filleting day a monster with filleting, glassing in tape over fillets when 80% cured to take advantage of chemical bond. Ran out of cabosil today along with a bit of energy towards the end of the day. Tomorrow will be order day from US Composites..

  • Planed bevel into upper panels lower edges.
  • Stitched Upper panels to lower panels - everything loose
  • Cut Angles in sheer clamp for stem using the sight to aft corner trick.
  • Trimmed sheer clamps

Session 2

Day: 3.0 hours. Total: 6.5 Hours

CNC cut upper hull panels
Bonded puzzle joints for upper hull panels
Cut and scarfed sheer clamps
Bonded sheer clamps to upper hull panels
Hot coat on inside of panels. 15% xylene.



Really enjoying the new CNC router. Bought this beast for $1,500 missing a controller and motors. Added 3 steppers, wired up a Dynomotion (KFLOP controller with KAnalog for the motor encoders) and it appears to hold .tolerance within 005". 1/4" steel tubing. Weighing in at 3,000 pounds.

My last CNC machine was 4 x 4 which required me to index the 4 x 8 sheets to cut large panels. The new 4 x 8 router saves me this hassle and the .035" or so misalignment that seemed to be part ofthe indexing game on the 4 x 4 machine.. HAPPY CHAPPY! 

The puzzle joints fit perfectly with a -.003" offset.. Light tap with rubber mallet and they were locked tight.

  • CNC cut chocks for holding boat
  • Drilled holes for bottom panels
  • Stitched bottom panels
